'Echoes': Recycled and Painted Ply / Timber / Wire sculpture
This work explored how the environment can shape identity. Through exploring the sensory experience of fragmented memory, the work is an insight into how to city can become very quickly overwhelming with its constant change.
We often have somewhere to be or are looking at our phones in a hurry to be somewhere else, with only fleeting glances around us. But why do we feel the need to have this overkill on sensory information? This work is based on the patchwork of non cohesive memory we ununiformly store. The overwhelming sense of having to be occupied or distracted by escapism in one form or another.
Different enviroments have an influence over the creation of a persons identity. So traveling through places which are in constant flux create unique conditions for identity and laungage to form. Is this why we feel so detatched not only from the people around us but the places we inhabit and work? Disconnected interactions between us and networks of people and things was the overarching exploration of our collective exhibition. It did not necessarily answer questions, but made space to feel, see, and explore these ideas.
